6 Ways To Find Outfit Inspiration

As a style blogger, I spend a lot of time trying to put together the cutest and most fly outfits that I can find. It’s very different than just trying to find something nice to wear to an event every once in a while. I pretty much have to do this every week to make sure that I’m giving you amazing looks constantly. There are points where I can become uninspired. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love styling looks and studying fashion. But, when you are doing it every day with a time limit placed on you, it can be a little stressful. Those are the moments when I look for a little style inspiration outside of my own closet. I love fashion so I can find style inspiration just about anywhere. Today, I want to share some of those places with you.

1. Style Blogs

One reason I started my own blog is that I enjoy perusing other style blogs. There are so many stylish girls out there whose style is very similar to mine, and some whose style is totally different from mine. Either way, I love checking out how they style different pieces. Some of my favorite style blogs are Girl With Curves, HighlowluxxeFashion Steele NYC, Song of Style, and Style and Poise. Check these girls out for a little style inspo! You won’t regret it!

2. Magazines

I also try to pick up the latest style magazines to see what the latest trends are going to be in the upcoming seasons. But, I also like to see how models are styled in some of the ads in the magazines as well. Their style gives me ideas for myself. I pick up a variety of magazines; they all have different elements that I enjoy. Some of my favorite magazines to buy are VogueHarper’s Bazaar, and Instyle.

3. Television/Movie Characters

Television and movies have long inspired us in the style department. There are so many trends that came from our favorite television shows. The first one that I think of is “The Rachel” (a haircut that the Rachel Green character from “Friends” made popular). Though I was very young when this TV show came out, I do remember that haircut being extremely popular. Everyone wanted their hair like that. I also remember when the TV show “Moesha” was super popular! My friends and I all wanted to dress like Brandy and wear our hair like hers too. And the most famous style icons from television that every style lover idolizes is the Carrie Bradshaw character from “Sex and the City”. I mean, I could go on and on about how amazing this woman’s style was and still is.

Right now, my favorite stylish ladies on television are Rainbow Johnson from “Black-ish”, Cookie Lyon from “Empire”, Issa and Molly from “Insecure”, and Kourtney Kardashian from “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” (don’t judge me).

4. My Girlfriends

I also get style inspiration from my girlfriends. Each of their styles is very unique, but there is always something that I can pick from their style that will incorporate easily into my own. Whether it’s a pair of heels that I love or a hairstyle that’s fly, I always get inspired by my sisters’ style!

5. Pinterest

Just about everyone uses Pinterest for one interest or another. I love it mainly for all of the outfit ideas I have gotten over the last few years. For example, I just bought this cute sweatshirt. But I wanted to wear it a little differently than just with jeans and sneakers. So, I went to Pinterest and typed in “Sweatshirt Outfit” and found all kinds of looks to try! It turns out, I had plenty of pieces in my closet that would go great with the sweatshirt. Sometimes you just need a little help. Pinterest saved the day!

6. Online Shops, Lookbooks, and Edits

There’s no easier way to find outfit inspiration than from the photo of the model rocking the piece that you purchased. Take ASOS for example; they do a good job of using their models to show you the best way to wear that dress or that top that the model is wearing. As a matter of fact, they’ll even suggest other pieces that go perfectly with that dress or top.  This takes the guesswork out of you trying to figure out how you’ll wear that piece after you buy it. Brands like H&M, Zara, and even Mango also use lookbooks as a way to show us different ways to wear their pieces. I especially love H&M’s lookbooks.
